Over one hundred and fifty years ago many new ideas about society began coming together to form a systematic discipline that studies society.

Auguste Comte, a French social thinker/philosopher, Gave the discipline its name in 1838, he is widely regarded as the “FATHER OF SOCIOLOGY”.
Greek philosophers, plato (437-347 B.C.) and Aristotle (384-322 B.C.) studied society and social life, but until the 1800’s, social thinkers were mainly concerned about the “ideal” society as a guide to social life. -What is Ideal?

SOCIALIZATION: the process of learning the rules, beliefs, values, and acceptable ways of acting in a culture or society.
