A 5-kg watermelon is packed in a crate so that it can shift its position by only 1 cm in any direction. Estimate the uncertainty in the watermelon’s momentum in a given direction and its zero point kinetic energy. Compare this kinetic energy with that arising from “thermal agitation,” kBT at 298K. Repeat the calculation for a beryllium atom packed in a beryllium metal crystal, where the constraint on motions is 0.05 Å.
