How are medical emergencies that occur at the jail handled by Sheriff Diamond's deputies and in many
other jails across the country?
The jail maintains a full staff of doctors and nurses and has a small emergency room.
The jail does not treat prisoners who become ill in jail; they are simply moved to an isolation cell until they improve.
The jail staff will place the ill prisoner in an available deputy's vehicle and drive him or her to the nearest emergency room.
The jail has nurses on duty who are able to perform an initial evaluation of a prisoner's health and provide basic first aid, while
summoning EMTS for emergency transport to the hospital.
