Activity
In this lesson, you analyzed how W. W. Jacobs used pacing to create tension in Part III of "The Monkey's Paw." In this activity, you'll write a two-paragraph analysis explaining how Jacobs' choices concerning order of events and pacing create tension over the course of "The Monkey's Paw." You can refer to your notes and annotations in the Read and Analyze section of this lesson or access the whole text here. You can also use any graphic organizers you've completed for "The Monkey's Paw" to support your analysis in this activity.
Part A
First, you'll plan your two-paragraph analysis by completing the table. Complete the first row of the table with textual evidence that shows how the author uses order of events and pacing in the story. In the next row, describe how this evidence affects tension the story.
