Moods
Serene after your late morning nap
you hold Mama's hand down the stairs
and gaze around with drowsy eyes.
You wield a smile at each of us
a stately flourish of your sheerfulness,
Webbly on your pint-sized legs,
you toddle around the kitchen
and tumble over a forgotten stick-
your smilles dissolve in an instant,
exchanged for indignant tears
soothed by a quick embrace
you sit peasefully at the table
and ready your toy horses for a rase
You babble memily
What does the structure of the poem c
the poet to do?
show how the speaker's reflections are
influenced by observing the toddler's diffe
moods
alternate between the todder's point of vie
and the speaker's point of view
move from a description of the speakers
positive moods to a description of the
toddler's negative moods
start with a focus on the speaker's life and
end with a focus on the toddler's life
