Patient B: Mrs B. is a 38 year-old woman who has suffered from female infertility for the last 5 years. Although her menstrual cycles have always been very irregular, doctors could find no reason for her infertility and, after she failed to respond to clomifene (a drug used to treat infertility), recommended in vitro fertilisation (IVF). In the last 12 months she has had two failed attempts at IVF. She started her third and final NHS funded IVF cycle 9 weeks ago that culminated in two embryos being transferred 6 weeks ago. She took a home pregnancy using an Immuno-hCG Detector test 4 weeks ago and it gave a positive result. She has her first appointment with her mid-wife in two days time and she wants to take another home pregnancy test “just to be sure”. She has provided URINE SAMPLE B.
