You are to start the role play as though you have finished helping Soraya to dress for the day. Due to maintenance work taking place at Banksia Care from 1 pm there has been a change to Soraya’s schedule. She typically goes for a walk after lunch each day in the gardens surrounding Banksia Care, today, however she will be unable to do so today. You are to let her know and ask if she would like to go for a walk this morning instead.

During the role play, your teacher will be looking to see that you can:

keep communication simple e.g. speak slowly and clearly, and speak in short, simple sentences
give Soraya time to speak (and answer your questions)
use visual supports to support the interaction
downplay any errors in Soraya’s speech
remain respectful in your interaction with Soraya.
