Protection of Consumers. ...Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) ...Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) ...Federal Trade Commission (FTC) ...Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
There are many different methods that government agencies use to protect consumers in the United States. This has been the result of lobbying, as well as a long list of compromises and legislation.
The main government agencies that deal with consumer protection are the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Food and Drug Administration, and the U.S. Department of Justice. These agencies enforce various different acts that usually deal with a specific type of good. Moreover, at a state level, many states have adopted the Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act, which is designed to protect consumers from fraudulent practices as well as misleading advertising.
