Do you think genetic counseling should be used to create the perfect child? Why or why not? Should it be used to prevent the transfer of disease? Why or why not?

Respuesta :

No. Genetic counseling should not be used to create the "perfect child." In fact, genetic counseling cannot create the perfect child. It merely informs the parents of the chances of their child having certain traits. Whether or not the parents chose to have children is not the responsibility of the counselors, nor is it creating the perfect child. If the parents did or did not have children without the counseling, it would have been no different. However, if they changed the child's genes, then that would be different. It should be, in a way used to prevent the transfer of disease. Informing parents of the chances that their child will have a disease gives them the chance to prevent their child from having a disease that will affect them in the future. Furthermore, if it prevents them from conceiving a child that may cause complications in pregnancy later, it would avoid things where ethics for some get murky, such as abortions in the case of endangering the mother.
