The Antarctica region is technically a desert. This is because it is extremely dry because there are very small amounts of precipitation on a yearly basis. The ice sometimes melts but nothing drastic happens and it all just reforms into other panels of ice. There is a lack of warm summers and no month ever goes over 10 degrees celsius.
