To cut short in 1830s, the United States Congress enacted the Indian Removal Act to strengthen the treaties and forcibly free up title to the sought over state lands. During this time, one third of the remaining Native Americans left  the area voluntarily especially because the act was being enforced voluntarily by government troops and the Georgia military men.

Further Explanation:

The Cherokee was a legal tribal government in North America. It was recognized from year 1794 to 1907. It was often called as the nation of Inhabitants. The Cherokees often used to call themselves as leading people. They had no standing government at national level. There were tensions between Cherokees and white settlers over ownership of lands which were rich in gold and also these lands were fertile enough to do cotton farming. There was increase in population of Georgia in early 19th century and that created tensions between Native American tribes with borders of various states. To overcome this issue, a treaty was signed between Cherokees and Government in order to removal process from tribal areas and moving towards Mississippi river. This removal process took place in three stages. The first stage was voluntary removal. This treaty provided Cherokees two year of time to relocate and under voluntary removal, the Cherokees who were willing to relocate by themselves were relocated. The second stage was ‘Forced Removal’. As the time provided to Cherokees to relocate came place, the Cherokees who were not in favor of relocating were relocated forcefully with the use of military power and lastly came the stage of ‘Reluctant Removal’.
