A recipe calls for 10 ounces of lemon juice to 4 pints of water to make a glass of lemonade. How many ounces of lemon juice should be added to 6 pints of water? Explain.

You can solve this by firstly making a fraction of 10/4. You set this equal to the equation x/6 and then solve for x by cross multiplying.

First, you need to figure out how many ounces for each pint.  To do this, divide the 10 by 4.  10 divided by 4 equals 2.5.  Then multiply the 2.5 by the 6 pints of water that you need.  6 times 2.5 equals 15.  So, you would need 15 ounces of lemon juice for the 6 pints of water.
