This is because the the investor has invested in a number of different assets which ensures that he lowers the variance or the risk associated with the investment. By diversification, the volatility associated with the investment has been reduced significantly.

2. The is an conservative portfolio. The reason being the major investment has been allocated to common stocks in a developing firm, which pauses great risks. A small percentage of the capital has been allocated to risk free assets. This minimizes his risks.
