The direct object is the noise.
A direct object is a noun phrase that is the recipient of the action verb. In this case, "Hikers (subject) can escape (verb) the noise (direct object) of the city (indirect object)." Noise is the direct object because it is what is being escaped; therefore, it is receiving the verb.
