The German Student Union (a.k.a. The "DSt") conducted burning of books. Their main reasons were for burning books were to destroy and rid books that went against or opposed the Nazi theories. The 1817 occurence also known as the Wartburg Festival, was also later used to justify more burnings of books in 1933.
