At a given time of​ day, the ratio of the height of an object to the length of its shadow is the same for all objects. If a 3​-ft stick in the ground casts a shadow of 1.5 ​ft, find the height of a tree that casts a shadow that is 18.65 ft.

The ratio of object to shadow is 3 ft object/1.5 ft shadow.
x ft object = 18.65 ft shadow
So you would multiply 18.65 by 1.5/3, which equals 9.325ft.
3 ÷ 1.5 = 2

x ÷ 18.65 = 2
x = 2 × 18.65
18.65 × 2 = 37.3

The tree is 37.3 ft tall.
