Units are measurements given to a specific dimension. For example:

t=time
M=mass

Units are used to quantify the measurement of a specific system such as acceleration, velocity, etc...

2 examples:

9.81m/s^2 is a measurement of acceleration. The unit is m/s^2 (meters per second squared) This unit is actually a constant and it measures the acceleration due to gravity. Now obviously, the number can change.

6J is a measurement of work. J (joules) shows how much work must be done on an object to complete whatever must be done on this object. For example, we need 3j of work to move this box north.

Units are important because without a unit, you have
no idea what the number means. It's as simple as that.

Here are the examples I always like to give:

I am 932 old.
I weigh 3,104 .
I travel approximately 35 to work every day.  It takes me less than 5 .
I earn a little over 198 on my job.

I've told you a lot of very private information, but without
the units, you still know almost nothing about me.
