NAFTA encourages trade between Mexico, U.S. and Canada. The North American Free Trade Agreement eliminated most tariffs on trade between Mexico, Canada and the United States. This agreement went into effect on Jan. 1, 1994. NAFTA was intended to boost economic activity between North America's three significant economic powers.
