The first thing you need to know is that it derives from the word "ethnic". An ethnic group is a group of individuals living in the same territory, that speak the same language, have the same religion and share the same culture.
Ethnocentrism, one could say, is the act of deducing certain things of other culture, based on one's own understanding of these and their differences from one's own (most of the time being unreal), ranking it as inferior to the authors culture (author meaning the one that practiced ethnocentrism).
Important note:
Ethnocentrism is often based on stereotypes and major differences such as physical and religious differences to name the most important ones.
Hope it helped,
Happy homework/ study/ exam!
Ethnocentrism is the tendency to view one's own culture and group as superior to all other cultures and groups.
