Answer: Tissue
Explanation:
The basic structural and functional unit of life is cell. It is the smallest functional unit inside the body.
A number of cells aggregate together to form tissues that function together is known as tissues.
It lies at the second level when it comes to level of organization in a living organism.
A group of tissue work together to make the organ functional. Example: The adipocytes are the cells that combine to form adipose tissue.
An aggregation of cells and extracellular materials which perform a discrete function is known as tissues.
Further explanation
Tissues are groups of cells that have a similar structure and act together to perform a specific function. Body tissue makes up organs and other body parts. There are four types of animal tissue and three types of plant tissue, as follow:
Type of animal tissue
- Connective tissue, this tissue is to connect or separates groups of other tissue. Connective tissue allows oxygen to diffuse from blood vessels into cells.
- Muscle, this muscle gives rise to muscles' ability to contract. There are three types of muscle tissue: skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and smooth muscle .
- Nervous tissue is found in the nervous system, such as the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. It is made up of neurons.
- Epithelial covers the surfaces of organs including the skin, the trachea, the reproductive tract, and the digestive tract’s inner lining. The roles of this tissue are absorbing water and nutrients, getting rid of waste, and secreting enzymes or hormones .
Type of plant tissue
- Vascular tissues has a role to transport substances throughout the different parts of the plant.
- Ground tissue. There are three types of ground tissue: parenchyma, collenchyma, and sclerenchyma.
- Epidermal guards the plant against water loss. It absorbs water and nutrients from the soil.
