Answer;
- Africans try to mix their African traditions with Christianity
- They formed maroon communities (communities of run-away slaves)
Explanation;
-Period 1 focuses on the North American continent from 1491 until 1607, the years from just before the arrival of European explorers to the founding of the Jamestown colony by the British.
-These years include the initial contacts between American Indians and the earliest explorers, as well as the introduction of West African slaves to the Western Hemisphere.
Africans preserved autonomy in the western hemisphere in period 1 U.S. history in two ways. The first one was Africans tried to mix their African customs and traditions with Christianity and the second one was they shaped maroon communities (communities of escaped slaves).
EXPLANATION:
• Africans managed their communities around family units, and the supply of gold often determined which society owned the most power - until the Atlantic slave trade began.
• The start of the Atlantic slave trade in the late 1400s interrupted Africa's social structure when Europeans penetrated the West African coastline, attracting people from the center of the continent to be marketed as slaves.
• New sugar and tobacco farms in America and the Caribbean increased the request for slaves eventually forcing a total of 12.5 million Africans across the Atlantic and becoming slaves.
• European slave commerce started with the exploration of Portugal on the west coast of Africa to find a sea trade route to the East. The East had many new resources, such as spices and silk, and the Portuguese were keen to obtain these items without a tiring journey by land from Europe to Asia.
• Soon, Spain, the Netherlands and Britain all followed the Portuguese crossing the Atlantics to carry the slaves. The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database assesses that 12.5 million Africans were brought via Middle Passage—across the Atlantic—to work in the New World. Many Africans died on the way to America, and those who arrived often confronted worse conditions than slave ships. Soon, the Atlantic slave trade would cause perpetuating racial hierarchy into the New World culture.
