According to sociologist George Herbert Mead, in the "preparatory" stage of self development, interactions lack meaning and children largely imitate the people around them.

George Herbert Mead was keen on the manner by which we created self-awareness. Mead trusted that our feeling of self was principally created through our social exercises. Mead estimated that there are three phases of self-development that we go through amid youth:  


1) Preparatory Stage(about age 2 or less).  

2) Play Stage(about age 2 through 6)  

3) Game Stage(about age 7 and more)
