Yes, at first glance this problem is odd.
3x-7+9-2x = x +2
3x + 2 - 2x = x + 2
3x - 2x - x = 2-2
0 = 0
I'd assume that 0=0 is the answer but I would double check with your instructor because I remember running into these kinds of problems, but I can't remember that you had to do with them. Sorry if I didn't help much.
