African tribal movement during the period of 1920 to 1947 was characterized by freedom movements that changed mass movement into a common movement with leaders from educated groups who are not from the tribe.  Several movements such as the Santhals, Kasi, Kuki and Singphos revolted against British rule and the British responded harshly. Northeast tribal movement can be characterized by British intrusion, movement against colonial exploitation and rebellion.
