Queen Liliuokalan wanted to reinstate the sovereignty of the Hawaiian monarchy. This was temporary as the planters staged a revolt with the help of U.S. gunboats. Overthrew her. As a result, she lost her throne and Hawaii was annexed and became the 50th state of the U.S.
