The ideas of natural liberty was Jefferson's arugument when creating the DOI (Declaration of Independence) and he based this writing off of John Locke who wrote the "Two Treaties of Government" in the 17th century. Jefferson literally changed the quote "pursuit of property" to "pursuit of happiness" instead that opened up the DOI.
