Kyle is renting a jet ski for the day. Below are his two options.

Powersports Plus: $30 an hour plus a non-refundable deposit of $50.

Sun & Surf: $20 an hour plus a non-refundable deposit of $80.

Write an equation that models this situation.

At how many hours will the two companies cost Kyle the same amount of money?

Equation:

x = per hour

y = total

Powersports: 30x + 50 = y

Sun and Surf: 20x + 80 = y

Solution: (Add the deposit then start adding hourly costs)

Powersports: 80, 110, 140

Sun and Surf: 100, 120, 140

---------------------------------------------------

Answer: After 3 hours both companies will cost the same amount of money.
