The Progressive Era is more often known for its major domestic reforms. Newspapers and print journalism would be a key element in bringing attention to the social damage created by the excesses in previous eras. Clearly, these played an instrumental role in affecting the course of the public’s debate on major issues raising awareness on them and bringing light to hidden truths.
Moreover, the media played the role of a messenger in relation to social, political, and economic issues. Not only did journalists and writers spread the word of what was happening exposing wrongdoing in politics and business during the Progressive era but also many intrepid reporters talked about social, political, and economic issues and spearheaded a drive for better and more truthful information.
The social, political and economic changes that American went thru the Progressive Era and the Age of the imperialism were influenced by the media.
The American newspaper industry during this started to expand massively, during this time the newspaper in english trippled.
Journalist were out and about to expose the social and political topics in very popular magazines and newspapers, they were also know as ¨muckrakers¨, because they were exposing all this issues of corruption and job explotation, they were semi-ornized journalist and writers group trying to bring this issues above water, they were using unión force, also been supported by the outcry of public opinión. It was a very exposed way to ensure the inmense power of the media in the political, social and economic ¨decisión making¨ in the country.
Technology was a precursor in this topic, because the printing presses were more fast and the efficient transportation, making information more accesible.
Also the magazines start to arise in the 1900´s, the subscribers blow up because of the national advertising.
