4. The first farming settlements were developed around the Euphrates River, back in the Neolithic. The land around this area was extremely fertile due to the constant rains. The river also served as a source for fishing and water-related agricultural activities. Mesopotamian people developed a civilization rich in a wide variety of foods. The region was suitable for crops, in contrast to the arid sounded areas.
