So to multiply you multiply it regularly like with any non decimal number and you add the decimal point and you should estimate first, for divide divide the same but include decimal point
How To Multiply Fractions
1.) Simplify It
[tex] \frac{14}{36} \times \frac{24}{78} [/tex]
[tex] \frac{14}{36} = \frac{7}{18} [/tex]
[tex] \frac{24}{78} = \frac{4}{13} [/tex]
2.) Cross Cancel/Cross Multiply
[tex] \frac{7}{18 } \times \frac{4}{13} [/tex]
Look diagonally. You can simplify both 4 and 18 into 2 and 9.
[tex] \frac{7}{9} \times \frac{2}{9} [/tex]
3.) Multiply the Numerators (the numbers on top) and Denominators (the numbers on bottom)
[tex] \frac{7 \times 2}{9 \times 9} [/tex]
[tex] \frac{14}{81} [/tex]
4.) Simplify
This fraction is already in its simplest form.
The answer would be
[tex] \frac{14}{81} [/tex]
How To Divide Fractions
1.) Skip the first number
Change the division sign into a multiplication sign. Inverse (flip) the second fraction.
[tex]\frac{14}{36} \div \frac{24}{78} = \frac{14}{36} \times \frac{24}{78} = \frac{14}{36} \times \frac{78}{24} [/tex]
2.) Follow Steps 1 to 4 of "How to Multiply Fractions".
[tex] \frac{14}{36} \times \frac{78}{24} = \frac{7}{18} \times \frac{13}{4} = \frac{7 \times 13}{18 \times 4} = \frac{91}{72} = 1 \frac{19}{72} [/tex]
Hope this helps. :)
