African American slaves were treated one of two ways:
1) Labor that only needed one-time pay, resulting in only the providing of the basics (food, water, lodging) for work, which led to large profits for the southernors.
2) Slave trade became extremely profitable because of the high demands for workers in the south. This meant that slave traders usually were extremely rich.
