Hey there!

You should use the quadratic formula to help you solve this problem.

Ax^2+bx+c

First, we need to simplify 2m^3+2m^2-12m so we can solve. We can't have b with a square, or c with a variable. Take one m away from each value.

2m^2+2m-12

Now, we need to find a set of values to factor that multiply to be AC and add up to B.

2*-12= -24 (A*C)    We need factors of -24 that equal to 2.

1,24 2,12 3,8 4,6 <=== 4 and 6 should work. Make the 4 negative and it equals 2.

So, we use the numbers -4 and 6 to help us factor. I use the box to help me solve most days. Use the common numbers to created the factored equation. Always use the sign for the number that is closest to you.

2m    ----    -4

2m^2       -4m     -2m

                              You have to find the similarities between the two.

6m            -12        -6

We end up with: (2m-4) (-2m-6) <=== that is the factored equation.

However, you can simplify it even more. Divide everything by 2.

(m-2)(-m-3) (the most simplified solution)

I hope this helps!
