In order to classify the object as an asteroid, its range must be from the size of dust particles to 1000 km or 600 miles. An object classified as an asteroid must be a rocky entity orbiting the sun. Most asteroids are found between Mars and Jupiter, but can sometimes enter the Earth's atmosphere as meteors.
