5. A car magazine is trying to write an article that rates the top 5 most fuel efficient SUVs (the SUVs
that can drive the most miles for each gallon of gasoline). They make sure each model of SUV has
exactly 10 gallons of gasoline in its fuel tank and reset the odometer (instrument that measures the
distance a vehicle has traveled) to zero. The SUVs are then driven until they run out of gasoline.
The distance on the odometer is recorded.
Independent Variable:
Dependent Variable: Miles driven
Controlled Variable: 10 gallons of gasoline

An experiment is performed based on the efficiency SUVs. In order to to check the efficiency of the different models of SUVs they kept the amount of fuel constant.

The independent variable in this experiment is different models of SUVs. As different SUVs will have different efficiency.

The controlled variable in the experiment is amount of fuel which is kept constant at 10 gallons of gasoline.

The dependent variable in the experiment is miles driven as it will depend on the model of SUVs because the controlled variable is kept constant.
