To shift a graph vertically and/or horizontally is to Translate it.
Translation--
A translation is a rigid transformation in which the graph of the original function is shifted some units to the left or to the right( i.e. horizontal shift) or some units up or down ( i.e. vertical shift ).
The horizontal shift of the function f(x) by k units is given by:
f(x) → f(x+k)
and the vertical shift of the function f(x) by k units is given by:
f(x) → f(x)+k
