There are three ways the water will reach the top of a tree
Capillary action: water is attracted to the sides of small tubes and can pull its way up through the xylem vessels
Root pressure: water absorbed by the plants in the roots pushes water up the xylem vessels
Transpiration: water is attracted to itself , and so when water evaporates from the leaves at the top of the plant, water is further pulled up
