I’m not entirely sure if it fits into the 1790s (pretty sure it does?) but the U.S. did decide to follow a more isolationist foreign policy-meaning that when the French Revolution started and the French looked to Americans for support, the U.S. didn’t send support. This broke the French/American alliance created during the Revolutionary War. I hope this helps!
