During photosynthesis, specific pigments absorb light energy, which is then used to fuel the building of sugar molecules. Which colors correspond to the wavelengths of light that are strongly absorbed by each pigment? Some pigments absorb more than one color of light strongly. Carotenoids Chlorophyll b Chlorophyll a green-yellow green-yellow violet-blue orange-red orange-red green-yllow green-yellow green-yellow green-yellow Incorrect One or more colors are misplaced or unplaced. Green-yellow wavelengths are reflected by Chlorophyll b. To identify which wavelengths are strongly absorbed by these pigments, look at the pronounced peaks on the plot, and identify which colors match to these wavelengths

Explanation:

Energy in the form of light or electromagnetic radiation is emitted by the sun as photons. This radiation forms wavelengths called the electromagnetic spectrum (EMR). Pigment molecules like chlorophyll in plants and other organisms reflect and absorb light at specific parts of the EMR.  On the absorption of photons, pigments become excited as extra energy has been added. This extra energy acts on electrons within the pigment sub-atomically;  and electrons are shifted to higher excited states called orbitals, which are further from the nucleus. each orbital requires discrete or specific energy amounts so each of these pigments each would absorb different wavelengths of light.

While the carotenoids absorb extra energy in the form of green-yellow and violet-blue light and reduce heat; chlorophyll a and B mainly absorb orange-red and violet-blue  wavelengths and convert light energy into chemical energy for the process of photosynthesis. The graph shows the EMR's visible light spectrum and corresponding pigments, Chlorophyll A, B and Carotenoids. This occurs in the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis, within chloroplasts of plants. The range of wavelengths absorbed by a pigment is its absorption spectrum while it reflects those outside of this range. Plants appear green as this region of light is reflected by the pigments.
