Fertilizers containing radioactive nitrogen compounds are used in growing experimental plants. In which molecules would these compounds be detected first?

Respuesta :

Amino acids

Remember that the structure of amino acids have an amino group (NH₃--Cα)

Explanation:

Plants will absorb the radioactive nitrogen compounds as ammonium (NH4+)  nitrates (NO3-)and nitrites (NO2-). The radioactive Nitrogen will  found in amino acids because the absorbed nitrates, nitrites and ammonium undergo a process called assimilation. The  nitrates and nitrites are firstly reduced to ammonia. The ammonia is then assimilation is a pathway called glutamine synthetase-glutamate synthase (GS-GOGAT). IN this pathway the ammonia is incorporated into the amino group of glutamine using glutamine synthase enzyme. The process of transamination of the glutamine then creates many other amino acids.
