Letter Home from War Assignment:
Directions: Pretend you are an individual that has enlisted to fight in the American
Revolution. You must pick a side that you will fight for and support in the war
Loyalist or Patriot. Your task is to write a letter home to a family member explaining
your reasons why you are fighting for the side you have chosen (be specific and
detailed) as well as your experience fighting in the war twe(10 sentences minimum).
Your Letter MUST include the following
In your letter, you must include: an appropriate salutation (Dear...) and an
appropriate closing (signed, faithfully yours...).
In your letter at the top: include a date for when you are writing (ex. July 4th 1776)
Live the times: Remember, you are pretending to live in the same time period as The American
Revolution (1754-1783)
Play the part: Be creative and unique in your letter, but be sure to keep historically accurate
Showcase your creativity in your work Type your letter, make it colorful, make it look authentic, use
fancy looking fonts (not to fancy, remember I have to read it!), etc.
• Your letter MUST contain ten sentences.
* In your letter, you must mention and describe at least seven of the following events, people or places:

French and Indian War
Battle of Saratoga
George Washington
Boston Massacre
Battle of Yorktown
Thomas Jefferson
Boston Tea Party
Boston
France or French
Continental Congress

Treaty of Paris (1783)
* EXTRA CREDIT: If you mention and describe at least two of the following:
Navigation Acts Intolerable Acts "No Taxation without Representation"
Stamp Act
Tea Act
Any other major battle of the Revolution
• This assignment will count as a quiz grade!! You will be graded accordingly based on
how much effort you put into your letter and that you have all the required components that must
be in your letter
