To add more advantage in going against the European nations he favored Iran, where he decided to preach Christianity and offered many trading rights who in return served help in turning the tide against Europe. Due to increased tension amongst them, there was a war which was fought between 1603 – 1608, in which there was the first victory of the Safavid over the arch-rivals, the Ottomans.
