Prompt:

One of the most profound and disturbing themes in Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” is the ambitious power a person exerts over an individual who has ascended to a post of authority. Under the influence of unchecked ambition, Macbeth takes actions that have serious and devastating consequences for him and for other characters in the play. It’s through such actions, that Shakespeare begs his audience to question: can an individual become too ambitious or have too much power? Is Macbeth’s downfall a result of fate, his ambitious choices or other factors entirely?
