In psychology, appraisals refer to how our own tendencies to mix up our evaluation toward a certain event with outer personal emotion. This will lead to different perspectives when different people are asked to describe a certain event.

For example, someone who is abused by their parents tends to rationalize the abuse as a form of love. So, when these people see a man abusing his wife, for example, there might be a chance that they interpret the abuse as a sign that the man is loving the woman. This type of exception would not exist among people who grow up in a loving family.

So even though those people view the exact same things, the interpretation that they have toward that event might be completely different depending on their emotions.
