The epic is named so because, in the entire epic Lord Rama will be in movement right from his adult age till the end. His action starts from the age of sixteen when Vishwamitra bramharshi takes Lord Rama with him to kill Rakshasas Thaataki and Subaahu who were troubling him while performing Yaaga.
Valmiki had also thought of other names for the epic like “Pulasthyavadha” and “Sitacharitha mahath” and finally decided to go with “Ramayana”.
