The moon has some gravitational pull on the earth so it causes the water on earths surface to change causing tides
The pattern of the Earth's ocean tides is the result of the interaction of:
-- the changing strength and direction of the force of gravity toward the sun due to its changing position and distance,
-- the changing strength and direction of the force of gravity toward the moon due to its changing position and distance,
-- the rotation of the Earth,
-- the shapes of the coastal boundaries between the Earth's land masses and its oceans.
