The Roman Catholics are an example of this type of religion. Cults are another religious organization that is somewhat small and secretive and has beliefs that are very different. 2. Discuss two functions that religion has in society. Why are these functions important? Religion gives people faith and purpose and many devote their lives to their gods or are given a set of values from these religions that give them direction. Religion also helps explain things in this world for people, it gives them insight and hope and beliefs in their God to give them good things and that some things happen for certain reasons. This makes life understandable and people don’t have to be afraid in a big world.
 3. Describe the differences between the sacred and the profane. What is one example of each? Sacred is something that is whole to the church or religion and profane is normal or common things that aren’t associated with the religion or church. For example, water is just water in everyday life but in some churches it is holy. Some religious people consider water a cleanser to purify the person.
4. What are two functions that education has in society? Why are these functions important? Education teaches us knowledge like science, math, history; that we will need to know the world around us. But,  we also need it to learn to socialize and operate in a working environment like knowing teach work, cooperation, meeting deadlines, and self-discipline. Education is a large facet of how we learn about  ourselves and the world and what we believe and what we want to do. It also helps define who we are.
