Niagara grape is vine plant. The characteristics of this type of plant are that they grow up vertically by taking the support of any vertical object, which may be living (trees) or non-living (wooden or metallic pole).
They are incapable of standing erect on their own and they engage into commensalism with other living component which has the capability of standing erect.
Commensalism can be defined as a type of inter-species relationship in which one of the species (vine) benefits due to the interaction but the other species (tree) remain unaffected due to the interaction.
The vines need to grow vertically in order to receive sunlight so that they are capable of preparing the food and energy required for their survival and reproduction.

Thigmotropism can be defined as a type of movement shown by the plants in which the stimulus of touch induces plant movement. Also, the plant moves in the same direction in which the touch stimulus is sensed.

They would stay on the ground and would fail to undergo proper photosynthesis due to lack of sunlight on the ground.
