Newspapers cartoons represented the conflicts between Republicans and Democrats where the republicans were trying to control the government. These political cartoons was a powerful force in establishing public opinion and press a mechanism for throwing the corrupt out of the system. These cartoons served in the era where photographs were not that common and literacy rate was very lower than today. Due to these cartoons Tweed ring was jailed for corruption and the cartoon "who stole people's money" implicated this. Tweed escaped and was arrested in Spain.
