Chromosomal aberration.

Explanation:

Chromosomal aberrations:

d. are changes to the overall organization of genes on a chromosome.

Chromosomal aberrations are of four types-

  • Deletion- If a segment pf DNA is lost then it results in alteration of gene sequence. This is called deletion. deletion may occur at terminal ends or interstitial regions.. Deletions are usually lethal.
  • Duplication- If a segment of DNA is present in multiple copies with a genome then the aberration is termed as duplication. Duplications may result in specific phenotypes.
  • Inversions - If two breaks occur in one chromosome and region between the breaks is inverted 180 degrees before rejoining two end fragments then the aberration is termed as inversions. Inversions do not bring about changes in genetic material and often do not show any abnormalities.
  • Translocation- When two non-homologous chromosomes exchange their segments then the aberration is termed as translocation.
