Answer: By understanding that lichens are a symbiotic relationship between algae and fungi we can understand what factors may affect them.

Algae need a lot water and sunlight,so the combination of water depletion and reduce amounts of sunlight means the algae cannot photosynthesis and therefore the fungi does not get nutrients from the algae and so the lichen population decreases.
